China stands indisputably as the world's largest buyer and importer of iron ore by an overwhelming margin, consuming over half of the global seaborne trade. Driven by massive domestic steel production, infrastructure development, urban expansion, and heavy industrial manufacturing capacity, Chinese steel mills and state-owned trading enterprises purchase hundreds of millions of tons of iron ore annually from major global suppliers in Australia and Brazil.
