Rather than a buyout of the entire corporation, a major division of Clearwater Paper was acquired by the Sofidel Group, a global leading manufacturer of paper for hygienic and domestic use. Sofidel finalized a 1.06 billion dollar transaction to purchase Clearwater Paper's consumer tissue division, incorporating four major manufacturing facilities and approximately 1,600 employees into its North American operating network. This strategic acquisition made Sofidel one of the largest tissue paper producers in North America while enabling Clearwater Paper to restructure its balance sheet and focus exclusively on its core paperboard operations.
