Clopay was bought by Griffon Corporation in 1986, which is publicly traded diversified company listed on NYSE as GFF, headquartered in New York City, and has owned Clopay since then for nearly 40 years. Clopay Building Products, founded in 1964, was originally independent garage door manufacturer, then acquired by Griffon Corporation in 1986, which at time was known as Instrument Systems Corporation, and Griffon has owned Clopay ever since, operating it as subsidiary in Consumer and Professional Products segment. Griffon also owns CornellCookson for commercial doors and other building products brands. Griffon Corporation, with revenue over 2.5 billion dollars, bought Clopay to expand into building products, and has invested in Clopay's manufacturing in Ohio plants, Intellicore insulation technology, and dealer network, making Clopay largest residential garage door manufacturer in North America producing over 1 million doors annually. So who bought Clopay is Griffon Corporation in 1986, which remains current owner, with Clopay headquartered in Mason, Ohio, operating independently but owned by Griffon, which is publicly traded company with Chairman and CEO Ronald J. Kramer leading parent company.
