The air conditioner drain pipe system consists of both indoor and outdoor components that can be easily located by following the layout of your HVAC setup. Indoors, the drain pipe begins at the primary condensate drain pan located directly beneath or inside the indoor air handler unit, which is typically situated in an attic, a utility closet, a basement, or a garage. From that pan, a PVC pipe exits the unit and usually features a T-shaped vent or access cap used for cleaning. Outdoors, the drain pipe typically runs from the indoor air handler through an exterior wall and terminates near the foundation of your home, often hanging a few inches above the ground or dripping into a flower bed or dedicated splash block. In some multi-story homes or apartments, the condensate line may route directly into an indoor plumbing stack or a bathroom sink drain line.
