They never truly stopped making Cutler-Hammer breakers; they stopped using the Cutler-Hammer brand name on new products and rebranded them as Eaton. Cutler-Hammer was acquired by Eaton in 1978, but Eaton continued to manufacture breakers labeled Cutler-Hammer for over 30 years after that because the name was well known to electricians. The transition began around 2008 to 2012 when Eaton started to phase out the Cutler-Hammer name in favor of Eaton branding as part of a global brand unification. By around 2012 to 2015, most new residential breakers that were previously labeled Cutler-Hammer BR and CH were being produced and packaged as Eaton BR and Eaton CH, with identical internal design and dimensions. The actual manufacturing never stopped; the same factories in Mexico and the US that made Cutler-Hammer breakers continued making Eaton breakers. You can still find new old stock with Cutler-Hammer labeling at some distributors, and millions of Cutler-Hammer panels remain in service that accept Eaton BR and CH breakers. So the production line continues today under the Eaton name, and Eaton BR breakers will fit old Cutler-Hammer BR panels, ensuring continuity for homeowners and electricians needing replacements.
