General Motors did not completely stop using the Allison name or transmission partnership; rather, the nature of the integration evolved over time. General Motors sold Allison Transmission as an independent corporate entity in 2007, but continued utilizing true Allison-built 1000 series automatic transmissions in its heavy-duty trucks under a licensing agreement through 2019. Starting in the 2020 model year, GM transitioned to utilizing its own newly developed heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmissions (such as the 10L1000) while continuing to license and feature the prestigious Allison brand name on heavy-duty Silverado and Sierra trucks.
