Workers' compensation insurance strictly excludes injuries that do not arise out of or during the course of employment. This means policies will deny coverage for injuries sustained while commuting under heavy personal deviations, participating in unapproved recreational activities away from work, or engaging in serious and willful misconduct, illegal acts, or horseplay. Furthermore, injuries caused entirely by being under the influence of non-prescription drugs or alcohol outside work directives, or pre-existing medical conditions unaffected by job duties, are excluded.
