Alcorn State University is an American institution of higher education located in Lorman, Mississippi, and is proudly recognized as the first land-grant historically black college in the United States. The name Alcorn honors James L. Alcorn, the nineteenth-century governor of Mississippi who played a key role in the legislative establishment of the university, serving generations of American students across diverse backgrounds.
