The state of Maine supports one of the largest and most robust black bear populations in the entire eastern United States. Wildlife biologists and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife estimate that the state's healthy black bear population numbers approximately 24,000 to 30,000 bears, thriving across the vast northern and eastern forested regions and managed carefully through regulated hunting and conservation programs.
