First Whitney Bank & Trust traces its historical lineage back to 1871 when Franklin H. Whitney established the First National Bank of Atlantic in Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa. Following Whitney's passing, his sons James and Thomas established the Whitney Loan & Trust Company in 1907 to continue offering essential financial services to the local agricultural and business community. In 1968, the bank officially adopted the name First Whitney Bank & Trust, establishing its headquarters at Third and Chestnut Streets in Atlantic, Iowa.
