In construction and engineering, a slab is considered a structural element constructed as a flat, horizontal surface made of cast reinforced concrete. This includes residential slab-on-grade foundations, suspended floor plates in multi-story concrete high-rises, industrial warehouse floors, highway paving sections, and precast concrete bridge decks. Beyond construction, any thick, flat, rigid block of stone, marble, or food product is also considered a slab.
