What is an interior area?

An interior area is an area that is located inside something, rather than outside, often referring to inner part of a building, region, or object. In a house or building, interior area means inside rooms and spaces within exterior walls, such as living room interior area, kitchen interior area, or total interior area measured as square footage inside walls, also called interior floor area. For example, interior area of 1000 square feet means space inside house you can live in. In geography, interior area means inland region away from coast or border, such as interior area of a country like central states away from coastline, often called heartland or hinterland. In a car, interior area is cabin space where passengers sit. In design, interior area refers to usable space inside room that can be decorated. In commercial real estate, interior area is leasable inside space. So interior area generally means inside area, inner zone, or space enclosed by boundaries, opposite of exterior area which is outside. For instance, interior area of a box is space inside box where you can put things, and interior area of a city is downtown or inner city area not suburbs.
