A Dhuni is a sacred, consecrated fire established and tended by Hindu holy men, yogis, and wandering ascetics. Traditionally lit within an open ground pit or a specialized clay vessel, the fire is kept burning continuously as a focal point for deep meditation, ascetic austerity, and spiritual devotion. Participating near or maintaining a dhuni is believed by practitioners to burn away negative karma and purify the mind and surroundings.
