A 3-point sprayer is a type of agricultural sprayer that attaches to a tractor using the tractor's 3-point hitch system, which is the standard three-arm linkage on the back of most farm tractors used to lift and carry implements. A 3-point sprayer consists of a tank, usually 55 to 300 gallons or larger, a pump, either PTO-driven or 12-volt, a boom with multiple spray nozzles covering 10 to 30 feet width, and a hand wand for spot spraying. It is used for spraying herbicides for weeds, pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals over fields, pastures, food plots, orchards, and large lawns. Advantages of 3-point sprayers include large capacity for covering acres without refilling, ability to use tractor's power for pumping, even broadcast coverage with boom, and durability for farm use. Brands like Fimco, Master Manufacturing, Workhorse, and Demco make popular 3-point sprayers. They are different from tow-behind sprayers that are pulled behind ATV or mower, and from backpack sprayers that are carried. Farmers use 3-point sprayers for weed control, crop spraying, and pasture management because they efficiently cover large areas with calibrated application rates.
