When an electrical outlet—such as a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)—fails to reset, it stays in a tripped or open state, permanently interrupting electrical continuity and leaving all connected plug slots completely dead. This power loss extends to any downstream receptacles daisy-chained to its load wiring. Consequently, devices plugged into that area will fail to turn on. You can troubleshoot power loss safely using a non-contact voltage tester. You can verify that your corrective action is successful when diagnosing the underlying electrical fault—such as resolving a downstream short circuit, drying out moisture, or replacing a defective receptacle—allows you to successfully reset the outlet and restore normal voltage delivery.
