In biblical narrative and traditional theological accounts found in the Book of Genesis, God placed the first human couple, Adam and Eve, inside the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it in harmonious fellowship. However, following the narrative of the Fall of Man—where Adam and Eve succumbed to temptation and ate the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil—God pronounced judgment upon the serpent, the woman, and the man. Consequently, God expelled humanity from the pristine garden to prevent them from eating from the Tree of Life and living forever in a fallen state, placing Cherubim and a flashing, whirling sword at the eastern entrance to guard the sacred pathway back to Eden.
