Chemical Bank completed a massive historical merger and corporate takeover of Manufacturers Hanover Corporation in 1991, creating one of the largest banking institutions in the United States at that time under the Chemical Bank name. This combined entity subsequently merged with The Chase Manhattan Corporation in 1996, eventually forming the core foundation of modern-day JPMorgan Chase.
