Garage door openers typically do not have user-replaceable fuse like automotive fuse that you can easily swap, but they have circuit protection including internal fuses or fusible links on logic board that protect against power surges and shorts. Most modern LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, and Craftsman openers have small fuse or fusible resistor soldered onto logic board that blows if there is power surge, lightning, or short circuit, cutting power to board to prevent further damage, and this fuse is not designed for homeowner replacement and requires logic board replacement costing 150 to 300 dollars if blown. Some older openers have glass cartridge fuse inside opener unit near transformer that can be replaced by removing cover and swapping fuse with same amperage, but this is less common in newer models. Additionally, opener is protected by household circuit breaker or GFCI outlet that trips during surge or overload, so check breaker panel and reset if tripped, and press reset on GFCI outlet. Opener motor has thermal overload protector that shuts off motor if it overheats from excessive use, resetting automatically after cooling for 15 minutes, which acts like fuse. Wall console and safety sensors are low-voltage and protected by transformer that has internal fuse. If opener suddenly stops working after storm and has no lights, internal fuse or logic board likely failed. To protect opener, use surge protector rated for garage door opener and ensure outlet grounded.
