To reset your garage door remote that is not working or to reprogram after replacing battery or erasing memory, you need to clear opener memory and reprogram remote using Learn button on opener unit. First, locate Learn button on garage door opener motor unit hanging from ceiling, near antenna wire and light cover, often under light lens, colored yellow, purple, red, or green depending on model. To erase all remotes and start fresh, press and hold Learn button for 6 to 10 seconds until LED light goes out, indicating memory cleared, which resets remote programming. To reprogram remote, press and release Learn button briefly, LED will light steady for 30 seconds, then within 30 seconds press and hold button on remote you want to program until opener light blinks or clicks, indicating remote learned. For multiple remotes, repeat for each remote. For keypad, press Learn button and then enter PIN on keypad and press Enter. If remote has multiple buttons, you can program each button to different door by repeating. Test remote after programming by pressing button to open and close door. If remote still doesn't work, replace battery, check for lock mode engaged on wall console that disables remotes, indicated by blinking light, so hold lock button 5 seconds to unlock. Ensure antenna wire on opener hangs down straight for range. Replacement remotes cost 30 to 60 dollars if old remote damaged.
