Yes, Owens Corning insulation is considered safe when installed and used as intended, and it meets all major US health and safety standards. The main product line, Pink Next Gen Fiberglas, is made from over 60 percent recycled glass and is bound with a plant-based, formaldehyde-free binder. It is GREENGUARD Gold certified for low chemical emissions and has been tested to not off-gas harmful volatile organic compounds after installation. The primary safety concerns with any fiberglass insulation are during installation, not after. When you cut or handle batts, tiny glass fibers can irritate skin, eyes, and the respiratory tract, causing itching and temporary coughing. This is why Owens Corning recommends wearing long sleeves, gloves, safety glasses, and an N95 dust mask during installation. Once installed behind drywall and left undisturbed, fiberglass is inert and does not cause health problems. It is also naturally non-combustible and does not support mold growth because glass does not absorb water. Owens Corning FOAMULAR XPS foam board is also safe but should not be left exposed to open flame and must be covered with a thermal barrier like drywall per building code. Compared to older insulation from the 1970s that contained asbestos, modern Owens Corning products contain no asbestos.
