Cambodia maintains a relatively tolerant social and legal environment regarding LGBTQ rights compared to many of its regional neighbors, though legal protections remain incomplete. Homosexuality is completely legal, and same-sex sexual activity has never been criminalized under Cambodian statutory law. Furthermore, the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk publicly expressed support for same-sex marriage rights, and public expressions or community events face minimal state interference. However, despite this cultural and legal tolerance, same-sex marriages are not yet legally solemnized, and LGBTQ individuals can still encounter social discrimination or lack explicit civil rights protections in housing and employment.
