Draining a residential washing machine that is stalled full of water requires using the built-in pump program or performing an emergency manual drain. If the appliance has electrical power, turn the program dial to select the "Drain & Spin" setting and press start to activate the internal pump. If the machine is unresponsive or clogged, you can drain the tub manually by opening the lower service access door, placing a shallow baking pan and thick towels directly underneath, and slowly unscrewing the pump filter plug a quarter-turn at a time to let water trickle out in controlled batches. Alternatively, you can lower the external drain hose down into a low-lying bucket resting on the floor below the drum level to let gravity siphon the water out. You can troubleshoot drainage easily. You can verify success when completely emptying the trapped water clears the drum.
