A high-quality brass shower valve does not operate on a strict expiration timeline and generally only needs replacement if the inner brass body suffers from physical cracking, severe mineral erosion, or structural thread stripping. Under normal residential operating conditions, a core shower valve can easily last twenty to thirty years or more. While internal wear items like cartridges or O-rings require periodic replacement every decade, the underlying rough-in valve body hidden behind the tile wall remains dependable for the life of the home.
