There is no immediate risk of the world running out of lithium, as total known geological resources and inferred reserves in the earth's crust amount to tens of millions of metric tons, sufficient to last for many decades or even centuries at projected consumption rates. As recycling technologies mature and new deep-seabed or unconventional extraction technologies emerge, the effective lifespan of global lithium reserves will continue to expand substantially.
