Fordham University holds a storied and historic football tradition that has produced more than seventy professional football players who went on to play in the National Football League (NFL) and American Football League (AFL) over the past century. Throughout its history, thirty-two Fordham Rams have been officially selected in the NFL Draft. The university's gridiron legacy peaked during the 1930s with the legendary "Seven Blocks of Granite" offensive line, featuring iconic figures such as Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi and Pro Football Hall of Fame center and linebacker Alex Wojciechowicz. In the modern era, Fordham has continued to develop elite professional talent, including running back Chase Edmonds, who was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018, offensive tackle Nick Zakelj, selected by the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, and quarterback John Skelton, who started games in the NFL.
