When cloudy tap water is caused by harmless pressurized air bubbles trapped inside the distribution system, it clears up almost instantly, typically taking only 30 seconds to two minutes when left undisturbed in a glass. As the microscopic air bubbles naturally rise to the surface and escape into the atmosphere, the water clears progressively from the bottom of the glass upward. However, if the cloudiness is caused by suspended particulate sediment or silt, it will take several minutes to settle or require flushing your plumbing lines. Verification: Pour the cloudy water into a clear glass container and watch to see if it turns crystal clear within two minutes.
