How do you replace an angle stop, which is small shutoff valve under sink or behind toilet that controls water to fixture, involves shutting off main water, removing old valve, and installing new one, and can be DIY for handy homeowner. First, shut off main water at house shutoff and open faucet to relieve pressure and drain. Second, place towel and bucket under angle stop to catch water. Third, disconnect supply line to faucet or toilet from angle stop using wrench. Fourth, remove old angle stop, if it is compression type, loosen compression nut and pull valve off pipe, you may need to cut pipe slightly if ferrule stuck, if threaded, unscrew, if soldered, you will need to cut pipe with tubing cutter and use new compression or push fit valve for easier installation. Clean pipe end, remove burrs and old ferrule. Fifth, install new quarter turn ball type angle stop, for compression, slide nut and ferrule onto pipe, push valve on, tighten nut hand tight plus half turn with wrench, avoid over tightening. For push fit like SharkBite, simply push onto clean pipe. Sixth, reconnect supply line, use new supply line if old is worn. Seventh, turn main water back on slowly, check for leaks at valve and connections, tighten slightly if needed, and test fixture. Replace with quarter turn ball valve for better reliability.
