To replace a worn O-ring inside a slip-on or threaded tub spout, start by shutting off the water supply and loosening the set screw underneath the spout using an Allen wrench, then pull the spout off the copper pipe nipple. Pry out the old degraded rubber O-ring from inside the rear inlet, clean away mineral scale, lubricate a new exact-matching O-ring with silicone grease, and slide it into place before reattaching. Verification: Slide the spout back onto the pipe and tighten the set screw securely.
