Current scientific and medical evidence does not support the claim that dietary turmeric or its active compound curcumin can directly dissolve or remove existing amyloid plaques from the human brain. While laboratory and animal model studies have historically shown that curcumin possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that might interact with inflammatory pathways associated with neurodegeneration, translating these findings into effective human treatments has faced significant hurdles. Clinical trials evaluating curcumin supplements for Alzheimer's disease have generally failed to demonstrate meaningful clinical improvements or measurable reductions in cerebral amyloid pathology, largely due to curcumin's poor bioavailability and rapid metabolic breakdown in the body.
