Yes, GAF stands for many different things depending on context because it is a widely used acronym and brand name across industries. Historically, the most well-known full form is General Aniline and Film Corporation, which was the original name of the American company that is now North America's largest roofing manufacturer, GAF Materials Corporation, founded in 1886. Today the roofing company simply brands itself as GAF and does not use the full form in marketing. In military and NATO contexts, GAF stands for German Air Force, used in English-language documents to denote the Luftwaffe. In Australian history, GAF stood for Government Aircraft Factory, an Australian government-owned manufacturer of military aircraft that operated from 1921 to 1987 before being privatized. In informal internet slang, GAF stands for Give A Fuck, as in IDGAF meaning I Don't Give A Fuck, though that is vulgar slang. Other official meanings include General Appropriation Fund in government accounting, Global Assessment Framework in education, Growth Acceleration Fund in finance, and General Account Fund. In UK and Irish slang, gaf or gaff is not an acronym at all but a slang word meaning house or home, derived from Romani language. So GAF does stand for many things, and to know which one is intended you need to look at the industry, for roofing it is the historic General Aniline and Film, for military it is German Air Force, for slang it is not an acronym.
