The project formerly known as Freenet continues to exist, but it underwent a significant branding change to reflect its ongoing development. In 2023, the project was officially renamed Hyphanet. While the name has changed to better represent the current state of the network, the project itself remains active, maintaining its focus on providing a platform for decentralized, censorship-resistant communication and file sharing, continuing the technical legacy it established under its previous name over many years.
