Gutter hanging screws should ideally be fastened directly through the wooden fascia board rather than driving straight up through the thin metal drip edge. While hangers are positioned right up against the bottom edge of the drip edge, driving screws through the metal itself can warp the flashing, create unwanted ripples, trap water against the wood, or compromise the roof's moisture barrier. Proper installation secures the bracket firmly into the solid fascia wood behind the drip edge.
