Yes, many ceiling fans do have some form of fuse or current protection, though it is not always a traditional glass fuse that you can easily replace like in a car. Most modern ceiling fans, especially those with integrated light kits, include a small current limiter or wattage limiter in the wiring harness inside the canopy or switch housing. This device is designed to prevent the light kit from drawing more than a certain wattage, typically 190 watts total, to comply with energy regulations. If this limiter fails or overheats, it can cut power to the lights or the entire fan. Some fans also have an internal thermal fuse attached directly to the motor windings. This thermal fuse is designed to permanently open if the motor overheats beyond a safe temperature, preventing fire. Unlike a circuit breaker, a thermal fuse does not reset and the motor must be replaced if it blows. Remote-controlled fans also have a receiver module that contains its own internal fuse or overload protection on the circuit board. If you are troubleshooting a fan that is completely dead, after checking the wall switch and breaker, check inside the canopy for a small in-line fuse holder or a burnt-looking limiter module. Always turn off power at the breaker before opening the canopy.
