Washing a bulky comforter in a traditional top-loading washing machine equipped with a central post agitator can be challenging and is generally discouraged for larger or delicate comforters. The central agitator takes up valuable drum space and creates harsh mechanical friction that can snag, tear, or unevenly bunch up the fabric, preventing water and detergent from circulating evenly. If your comforter is twin-sized or made of highly durable material and fits loosely around the agitator without being forced, you can wash it carefully on a gentle cycle, but bulky king or queen comforters require an agitator-free machine or a commercial laundromat washer.
