Yes, a gas strut can definitely be too strong. If the extension force (measured in Newtons) is rated higher than required for your specific application, the hatch or lid will be exceptionally difficult to pull closed and may exert excessive stress on mounting brackets, hinges, and attachment points. In severe cases, an over-powered strut can spring open violently, warp sheet metal, or pop hinges out of alignment.
