Purchasing and holding shares in corporations is permissible (halal) in Islamic finance under the fundamental condition that the underlying company engages in lawful (halal) business activities and does not derive its primary revenue from prohibited industries such as conventional interest-based banking, gambling, alcohol, or pork production. Contemporary Islamic jurisprudence permits investing in "clean" or screened equities provided that any minor non-compliant income is purified through charitable donations and the company's financial leverage ratios comply with recognized Shariah standards.
