Squashing a house centipede is discouraged because doing so typically leaves behind a messy, staining residue on walls or flooring and can release strong defensive odors. Furthermore, crushing them manually ruins their carcass, making cleanup unpleasant. While they look intimidating with their many legs, house centipedes are actually beneficial predators that hunt and consume more harmful household pests like silverfish, roaches, spiders, and termites.
