Experiencing a total lack of power to your garbage disposal (indicated by absolute silence when flipping the wall switch) is typically caused by a tripped under-sink GFCI outlet, a tripped main electrical circuit breaker, or a tripped thermal overload reset button on the bottom of the disposal unit itself. When the motor draws excessive current or overheats, safety breakers trip instantly to cut power and prevent electrical fires. Verification: Press the red reset button underneath the unit and check your main electrical panel breaker switch.
