When a wall thermostat display stays stuck at the exact same temperature reading and refuses to change, it is usually caused by a frozen software microprocessor, a temporary display glitch, or a complete communication breakdown with the indoor temperature sensor. If the internal sensor fails or gets stuck due to power fluctuations, the thermostat cannot register environmental changes. To resolve this, you can perform a quick reboot by removing the thermostat faceplate from the wall mounting bracket, taking out the batteries for one minute to let internal circuits discharge, and snapping the faceplate back into place. For smart thermostats, checking for pending firmware updates can also fix software freezes. You can verify that the reboot was successful when the temperature display updates normally and responds to environmental shifts.
