The company derived its unconventional name from its original founding product: a massive, oversized bean bag chair filled with shredded Durafoam that founder Shawn Nelson built in his college basement in 1995. Because friends and customers affectionately referred to the giant, ultra-comfortable foam sacks as "love sacs," the moniker stuck as the official brand name when building the company before later expanding into high-end modular Sactionals.
