The athletic teams representing Florida Atlantic University proudly carry the "Owls" nickname, which was officially selected following a campus-wide vote and administrative decision during the university's early foundational era. The moniker was chosen to symbolize wisdom, vigilance, and the native burrowing owls that frequently inhabited the South Florida coastal landscape surrounding the Boca Raton campus. The mascot serves as an enduring emblem of academic enlightenment, school spirit, and athletic tradition.
