Stephen Amell did not quit Arrow abruptly or due to a conflict, he and the producers mutually decided to end the show after Season 8. Amell had been playing Oliver Queen since 2012 and spent eight years filming in Vancouver, away from his family who were based in Los Angeles, working extremely demanding hours with intense stunt training, fight choreography, and night shoots. By Season 7, he was physically and mentally exhausted and began discussing with showrunner Beth Schwartz and executive producer Greg Berlanti that Season 8 should be the final season. He wanted to spend more time with his wife and children, pursue other acting opportunities like his wrestling drama Heels on Starz, and avoid the show declining in quality. In March 2019, The CW officially announced that Arrow Season 8 would be a shortened 10-episode final season leading into Crisis on Infinite Earths, which gave the writers time to craft a proper ending with Oliver's heroic death. Amell has said repeatedly in interviews and convention panels that he left on very good terms, loves the character, and would be open to returning as Oliver Queen in James Gunn's new DC Universe if asked, but he did not quit out of anger or because he was fired.
