The first recorded owner of the iconic Maruti 800 in India was Mr. Harpal Singh from New Delhi. The keys to the historic hatchback were officially handed over to him by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during a special public launch ceremony held in December 1983. He won the purchase allocation through a lucky draw, acquiring the vehicle for a price of 47,500 rupees, which ultimately sparked the mass-motorization revolution across the Indian subcontinent.
