Who owns Roto-Rooter? Roto-Rooter is owned by Chemed Corporation, a publicly traded company listed on New York Stock Exchange under ticker CHE, which acquired Roto-Rooter in 1980. Chemed Corporation is holding company based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that owns both Roto-Rooter plumbing and drain cleaning business and VITAS Healthcare hospice business. Roto-Rooter itself was founded in 1935 by Samuel Blanc in Des Moines, Iowa, who invented first electric drain cleaning machine using principle of plumber's snake with rotating blades, naming it Roto-Rooter for its ability to root out clogs. After growth, it became franchise system. Chemed purchased Roto-Rooter Group and expanded it into national chain with company owned and franchise locations, now over 600 locations in US and Canada. So owner is Chemed Corporation, which operates Roto-Rooter as subsidiary, with headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, and continues to provide plumbing and drain cleaning services nationwide.
