Who is the most famous person that lives in Virginia?

Determining the most famous person who lives in Virginia is subjective and changes over time, but several highly famous individuals are associated with Virginia residency. Virginia, especially Northern Virginia near Washington D.C., is home to many political figures, media personalities, and athletes due to proximity to the capital. Historically, former members of administrations often live in McLean, Great Falls, and Arlington. In terms of national fame, one of the most famous people often cited as living in Virginia is Pharrell Williams, the musician and producer from Virginia Beach, who maintains ties to Virginia. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, originally from Warren, Ohio, grew up in Virginia. Sandra Bullock has owned property in Virginia. Former professional athletes like former Washington Commanders players and coaches live in Northern Virginia. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, U.S. Senators from Virginia, live in Richmond and Alexandria respectively and are nationally known. However, if measuring by global recognition, author John Grisham lives in Charlottesville, and actor Warren Beatty has had ties. Because celebrities value privacy and many split time between states, no single definitive most famous resident exists, but musicians, authors, and political figures rank highest in recognition, with Pharrell Williams often considered one of the most globally famous current Virginia residents.
