Without question, the most famous, celebrated, and heroic figure associated with the Underground Railroad is Harriet Tubman (often revered by freedom seekers by her biblical code-name, "Moses"). Having successfully escaped from slavery herself, she displayed extraordinary bravery by returning into dangerous slave states nearly twenty times to personally guide upwards of 70 family members and friends to freedom along the clandestine network, never losing a single passenger on her perilous rescue missions.
