The Victorian Government is led politically by the Premier of Victoria, who serves as the head of the state government and is supported by a cabinet of chosen ministers responsible for various portfolios. The Premier commands the confidence of the elected lower house of the Parliament of Victoria (the Legislative Assembly). Administratively and constitutionally, the King of Australia acts as the formal sovereign head, represented locally in Victoria by the Governor of Victoria, who performs ceremonial and constitutional duties under advice from the democratically elected state government ministers.
