Thermador was bought out by BSH Home Appliances Corporation, which is BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH, German appliance giant owned by Bosch Group, in 1998, after being American independent brand for 82 years. Thermador was founded in 1916 in Los Angeles, California, USA by William E. Criss as American company making electric heaters and later inventing first built-in wall oven in 1947 and first soft-heat cooktop, becoming luxury cooking brand known for innovation. By 1990s, Thermador faced financial difficulties, and in 1998 German BSH group, which was joint venture of Bosch and Siemens at that time headquartered in Munich, Germany, acquired Thermador to expand its luxury portfolio in North America, adding to Bosch and Gaggenau brands already owned by BSH. BSH is now wholly owned by Bosch Group since Siemens sold its stake in 2015, so Thermador is now owned by Bosch Group German company. Under BSH ownership, Thermador manufacturing moved to La Follette, Tennessee, USA for ranges and cooktops, while sharing technology with Bosch dishwashers and other appliances. So Thermador bought out by BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte in 1998, now owned by German Bosch Group, with headquarters remaining in Irvine, California, USA as American luxury brand under German ownership, sold in Canada through specialty dealers.
