Wealth and commercial influence in Kuwait are largely concentrated within several prominent, multigenerational merchant families that control massive conglomerates spanning international trade, banking, real estate, construction, and retail. Among the most prominent wealthy family dynasties are the Alghanim family, renowned for massive industrial, automotive, and engineering operations; the Al-Kharafi family, famous for dominating contracting, manufacturing, telecommunications, and food services through expansive corporate holding groups; and other influential trading families such as the Al-Bahar, Al-Wazzan, Al-Ghanim, and Al-Sager lineages. These elite families have historically played foundational roles in establishing major national financial institutions, commercial banks, and publicly traded corporations that drive the domestic economy forward.
