Plaid has not been acquired by another entity. In January 2020, financial technology giant Visa announced a definitive agreement to acquire Plaid for $5.3 billion. However, due to an intensive antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice challenging the merger on competitive grounds, both companies mutually agreed to terminate the transaction in early 2021. Plaid continues to operate independently as a private financial technology infrastructure enterprise backed by prominent venture capital and institutional investors.
